The L.A. City Fire Department’s westside Community Emergency Response Team volunteers invite fellow CERT members and interested members of the public to get an inside look at how major media prepare for and respond to major disasters, and how the media interface with the Fire Department, at a community meeting on Tuesday, September 18th.

The meeting will take place from 7:15 to 9:00 pm at the training room of Fire Station 5, 8900 S. Emerson @ Westchester Parkway, in Westchester. Admission is free. The public is welcome, but due to limited seating, an RSVP is requested to lafdbatt4cert@gmail.com. Meeting guests should park on Emerson. The training room is at the back of the property. Visitors are asked not to disturb the Fire Station.

Featured speakers will include Patrick Healy, News Reporter for KNBC, Channel 4; Pete Demetriou, News Reporter for KNX 1070 Newsradio; and Captain Jaime Moore, Public Information Officer for the L.A. City Fire Department, as well as an LAFD Public Service Officer.

How do the media plan internally to recover from a catastrophic event? How do they pre-plan coverage for those challenging times when the public will depend upon them most? How do LAFD and other first responders coordinate dissemination of critical information with broadcast and other media, including the new social media? Find out through this fascinating panel discussion.

The meeting is sponsored by the Community Emergency Response Teams from West Los Angeles, representing CERT volunteers in LAFD Battalions 4,9, and 18.
